    Not unlike me to transpose numbers but yes the 43 appears to be 31942. If there's any other numbers they're cleverly hidden. But just forward of the receiver, on the barrel disappearing into the wood I see one digit that looks like a "0" or a "D". I'll have to pull it apart to see if there's more. Not today though.

    Yes, 5 figure serials with or without letter blocks are right for mid to late war byf's it seems......(I admit late war 98's are not my main interest and I've never seen a 5 number one for sale in UKicon)
    Yours looks like a b block serial?

    BUT..............leaving aside boring run of the mill byf's and moving onto that gorgeous looking '39 dated Erma.........that looks absolutely lovely........and one of the more sought after makers...
    Can't quite make out the letter block under the serial?
