V4 means about blind I guess, Infantry had to be above that. I never fell into any of those classifications so I just know we had guys with glasses. Other trades I couldn't say.

Just curious as were I in a firefight and lost my eyeglasses all I could do is trade my rifle and ammo for grenades and have someone point in the direction I needed to throw them.

PS The guy on the binos looks like "Cowboy" from Full Metal Jacket.

I couldn't understand guys in the infantry when I was young that couldn't see without specs...for that reason. Now I know I couldn't do my job, with my eyes like they are now.

I use to carry two spare sets of glasses with me just in case. When they issued the conventional arms BCGs, we would buy a safety band that fitted to the glasses to keep them from falling off. Later they would issue the BCGs with arms with a wire rim that would go securely behind the ears to keep the glasses from falling off. I still could not pick up any girls with those glasses. After basic and advanced training, I ordered several pairs of Randolph Aviators and had prescription lens made for them. Then the girls always thought I was a military pilot and would go out with me!! LOL
