    Me thinks it was a stagged picture. He would have not been sporting his bright captians bars and watch like that in the bush or he could have been a new bee.

    That's the way things were done back then. People learned fast though. When I was a cadet (mid 70s) a well traveled NCO told us aspiring officers that in a combat zone no one should have rank insignia, carry a pistol, have binos visible, or carry a map case. He told us that anyone who needed to know that we were officers would already know it. Of course standing next to the RTO was a give away!

    This pic. was taken in jun 64 when they wore bright color'ed rank and unit patche's, and white T shirts. in about 68-69 they got rid of all the pretty [parade] stuff and went to OD rank, if any at all, Helment cover's, plastic canteens. We caught on quick.
