Alan and Badger- I'd suggest you don't post it in the resource section. The family of Mr Sweet is now re-producing his book for commercial sale and have current copyright. Would I be correct in assuming you got your pdf copy from Mr Horton's manuals? Well, the Sweet family contacted him and asked that he take down the file he had set up as free download, so doing it again here probably wouldn't be looked apon kindly.

The website (link above) for the QRA resource shop isn't exactly manned 24 hours a day. Be patient, they should get back to you.... or send them a reminder. They do stock the book.

Before posting it I would suggest you check it out with Ed Horton who originally posted it on one of the forums; I think it was withdrawn because it infringed copy right.

Edited to add Son beat me to it!!

Correction from the horse’s mouth, I purchased an actual copy of Jim Sweets book from a New Zealander, I then scanned the book into .pdf format and placed it in my manual sticky at Gunboards for free download.

Badger had asked me earlier if he could display the manuals I had at his site and I told Badger he could have anything he wanted because the first manuals given to me were from a Canadianicon.

    Now a few facts
Both the Jim Sweet book and the RGB Reynolds book caused me a lot of heart burn from the very beginning because of hate mail from people trying to sell the actual books online and these people were unhappy that I was giving away copies of the book for free.

Badger informed me he had received an email from the daughter of Jim Sweet stating she was extending the copyright on the book and I should delete it from my down loads.

To date I have never seen any email or official documentation from anyone other than the warning email from Badger on the matter.

I do NOT know if this was a hoax, a trick or subterfuge to raise the price of the original books online through the dealers or individuals.

The copyrighted book by American standards expired 50 years after its first publication unless the author extends the copyright. The author died and NO one has proven the copyright has been extended, I removed the book to protect Gunboards and my manual sticky and NOT because I received ANY official notice from anyone.

Only Badger has the email and information sent to him and verification from a second source would not hurt the matter on Jim Sweets book.

My personal feelings are this, I bought the book to help American Enfield collectors learn about bedding the Enfield Rifleicon so we could beat the Australians in a Enfield postal match and regain our American honor for losing the Americas Cup.

To this day when I hear the Men at Work Song “The land Down Under” I get a little teary eyed at the loss.

Please note there is a very good chance that Son sent a fake email to Badger out of fear because he knows that I’m a very good shot.

Hah! Yet another statement with no basis in actual fact. I have it on very good authority, from one of your fellow American servicemen, that you aren't any good at all with a Lee Enfield. In fact, here's the proof!

The truth in this matter is this started a few years ago when Steve Redgwell complained and threatened legal action at two websites if I did not remove the Canadian manuals from my manual stickies. I wrote to the Canadian Government and Canadaicon does not copyright these manuals as evidenced by the downloads at Badgers website.

On top of this all copyright laws must be reciprocal between two countries and the U.S. does not copyright military manuals, the U.S. Constitution starts off “We the people” meaning that what belongs to the government belongs to the people.

I received more hate email from people about losing money on the Enfield manuals they were “selling” and hate mail about losing money on selling copies of Sweets and Reynolds books online than you can imagine. And Badger got these books from me in Adobe .pdf format and it would be nice to see what correspondence Badger has received to clear this up on the Sweets book.

If this wasn’t bad enough other people complained about the manuals and books to the websites and their only possible reason for this was they did want any competition when it came to handing out answers in the forums about Enfield Riflesicon.

The shame of it all is I have the manuals and books, I have read them all, I would like to hand them out to help Enfield owners and people are trying to stop me for their own personal gain or greed.

I have thousands of pages of information that need to be convert to .pdf format but the harassment and flak I’m getting makes it not worth it anymore, Vic at Gunboards is accusing me of “selling copyrighted material” because of these back stabbing people.

If its the original manual you copied no one can threaten a copyright over it. But if its a re-edited version then the person who edited the book does have a copy right on the "new" work.

Its the same way publishers can claim a copyright over a Shakespeare play, they re-edited the play into their "new" book, so you have a new item that can be copyrighted.

I could copy word for word the contents since it in itself is not copyrighted (such as by writing it all on the computer), but to copy it page by page (by formatting the copy to match, or to scan/photocopy) is not permissible due to reproducing the original re-edited version that has a new and current copyright.

Well, I for one, would like to thank you Ed - I''ve found the manuals you had / have to have been very useful. 'More power to your elbow'
