How many QMs could have been involved in that action? I don’t recall it being a huge undertaking.

It may have not looked like a major undertaking for the U.S, but I can assure you it was for us Brits at the time. We were in the process of selling off major assets like Ships/Planes to India and other countries which had to be recalled for the conflict.

I reiterate.................. every unit had a QM, Army/RAF/NAVY and every unit would have had to impliment their WAR FOOTING quota for the numbers and assets under their command and demand delivery of all those assets from a number of key locations including Donnington where most of the British Army keeps reserves of ALL stocks including at the time L42A1 rifles. Ammunition for instance, came from a number of European countries within NATO just to meet the ammo requirements....fact!

I am not sure why you keep pressing the need to find out the actual serial numbers of every rifle that went down south................are you writing a book, if so you will have to research that yourself, and I can assure you as I have already said, you will need every QM's actual list to achieve that, and you will be a very old man waiting for any replies?
In short there were over 100 x QM's from ALL services that I can count, so good luck with that, and I don't mean to sound facetious or arrogant, but thats the way it was.

You will pick up odd serial numbers from other books who detail specific weapons they are talking about like I did in my book, but trust me you are on a lost cause. Freedom of Information to MOD here won't have that information that far back to 82 and why should they, but somewhere in a dark corner Operation Corporate will have boxes that we would all like some answers from!!

Lee Enfield 7.62mm ENFORCER number 238 was issued to North Yorkshire Police on the 26th June 1974 under release number 444151/24.

Two L42A1 rifles are up for auction. I'm deciding which, if any, I'll bid on. Their serial numbers are G31227 and AT3187. Do you have records for either?

Only one of the two rifles on the lists I'm afraid, although I do have G31228 one above it on the list.

The L42A1 Rifle serial number AT3187 was in a batch of 33 sent from building 69/671 at Donnington on the 18th October 1971

Have had it since the guns went for $125.00 bought it as a 303, until all of the grease was melted off and
7.62 was showing on the muzzle
It was tagged as a 303
