I know they have quite a following but I attribute that to their cost and cheaper ammo. I find them unshootable. A friend owns one we took out and while he tried to use a charger to load it he took the end skin off his thumb...that looked like it hurt. I shot a few and gave it back. He didn't go much further. I would have owned an SVT 40 though if we didn't have such foolish magazine restrictions here. The cartridge is potent enough.

I actually enjoy shooting them. They are a piece of history and display the differences in military philosophy between the various nations. Collecting them is fun because there are enough variants to keep it interesting. With over 17 million 91/30's made, it is a fun challenge to find those that have some significance (like a 1930 rifle, one of the very first batch of 91/30s, or a 1936 round receiver, one of the very first to be switched from the hex receiver). The other fun thing is that they each have their own operational "personality" and weird quirks. When you get done shooting one, you remember it for a couple of days!

I agree, they are butt-ugly but I find myself wishing I had picked up one when I could get it for about $89. That is a very nice specimen daveboy!
