    I'm not sure that the "spiral" groove isn't actually a wire that the rifle is hanging from for that photo and what we're seeing is the remains of it post photoshopping? It doesn't appear in any of the other photos.

    I'm not convinced that the scope isn't actually a repro that has been "aged", etc. The reproduction bracket and cradle screws have certainly been well worked over to give some patina!
