Fairbairn Sykes fighting dagger identification
Hi all
New member (registered today) on recommendation of Peter Laidler
who writes knowledgeably on another forum I use (classic 60’s mini’s).
Peter tells me if anyone can help you guys can ?
To cut a long story short I have found this knife in a old rotten damp shed and am primarily interested in finding out it’s origin and age .
It has like a Xmas tree symbol and either 52 or B2 stamped on the blade guard .
Obviously I need to show a photo but cannot see how I upload a photo on here so will also need help with this .
Many thanks
Jeremy

Try this for help with pics. It's not nearly as complicated as it may first appear.

I think that it will be a B2 on the cross piece of your knife, making it desirable.
It's difficult to know what you have exactly without seeing images of it.

It's a 2nd pattern and looks good so far from what I can see of it.

Many thanks for swift reply Flying10 much appreciated.
Any idea of decade or even year these were made ?
Also any indication of what forces would have received this ?
Would love to know the history of this as I find it very fascinating.
I will try later on to upload a better image
Cheers and thanks

They were first made during WW2 as a cheaper and easier alternative to the first pattern F/S fighting knife.
Which ever forces needed a fighting knife would have received it, such as, Commandos, SAS and what would have been the British
resistance had the Germans invaded, known as Auxiliary Units.

Can the OP post any better pics and some close ups, also of the scabbard, shame the condition of the blade, handle looks good but need close up. I know a man who could possibly sort the blade if its the real deal, if you can get better pics.
I passed on a similar condition knife a few weeks back, blade was too far gone unfortunately,
it would of been a handle for £180, daft when you can pick up a 2nd pattern knife for £400

Nice Wilkinson 2nd pattern - B2 and Broad Arrow markings are correct for this knife.
This pattern was made between 12th of August 1941 until the end of 1943.
Blade looks pitted - hopefully just dirty.
Even pitted those are valuable pieces now.
$400-$500 and up over here.
Here's some info: http://www.gotavapen.se/gota/artikla..._knife_p22.htm
Nice find.
