Grandpa digged it out from the yard in front of our house after the Allied swept over Ancona in 1944.
I don’t remember exactly, but looks like a 105 mm. Should ask dad.
They were trying to knock out a German88 that had destroyed 4 Shermans on the road at the other side of the valley. Our house was in Osimo, and the tanks were coming over from Castelfidardo.
The 88 was damaged at some point and the Germans towed it away and left.
Dad remembers lots of gauze and bandages with a lot of blood on them.
This shell landed directly in front of the house, in very wet earth (luckily).
