No registration required. The serial number is manually written down in a log book and out the door it goes.

I had an M2 just a bit earlier than that one years ago...140,000 earlier. They could have at least re-stamped before refinishing.

Just because it has an M2 stock doesn't mean it was originally an M2 carbine. I've purchased several carbines that came with an M2 stock.

I think what they are saying is that serial number should say “U.S. carbine cal .30 M2” and it looks like the m2 was removed.

I'm thinking more along the lines of poor newbie doesn't even know the hassle he just bought if he were to ever try to pawn it to borrow money for a short while, or register it himself, or anything that requires the serial number to be ran. Or the person may know very well what he just bought but with six transactions, it would seem more like the newbie to me.jmo

That's exactly what was just said. The serial range is M2. The stock doesn't mean squat.
