Probably the design of the collapsable stock that some would draw a difference between the 30P and a “real” paratrooper.

Thanks for the answers. Could someone advise exactly what "base" was on this carbine that catered for the dovetail? I cannot see any grinding etc that shows anything was removed.

The Plainfield "Paratrooper" was named that because it had a telescoping wire stock and fore and aft pistol grips. It was all marketing and was never actually issued to Paratroopers. The original in all pictures I've ever seen (and I still have the original instructions for my first Plainfield (which has a section cut out for warranty registration) carbine) and it shows a picture of a "Paratrooper" with a standard M1 Carbine rear sight and receiver. I'm guessing some one had the top milled and the dovetail removed. Plainfield may have made it like that but I doubt it. Putting it back is more trouble than it's worth IMO, but it's your gun and your wallet.

Don't think anyone implied that it was ever issued. It is a commercial carbine.
