He was horribly racist in some of his views and policies but his ability to lead when the pressure was on is undeniable.

For those that have watched The Professor and the Madman he made a surprise appearance in that film.

I think that is putting it a bit strong. One has to remember that Churchill was brought up and educated in the Victorian era and so, unsurprisingly, some of his values and language reflect that era. When we look back at him in 2022 it is not surprising, therefore, that we find some of the things he said and, perhaps, did inappropriate.

    North Carolina you say?

IMHO what distinguished Churchill aside from his breadth of vision and great wit & power of expression, was his moral courage; the rarest kind.

This was demonstrated most of all not in the 1940s, but in the '30s when almost no one wanted to hear what he was saying about Nazism and Germanicon revanchism and he had nothing to gain personally by saying it.

Much changes, much remains the same.

I'm going to ask you guys to get off each other's cases; and I'll do it in the words of the esteemed prophet, Monty Python (from The Holy Grail, Scene16: "You Can't Stop An errrr Prince?? From Singing"):

Father: "Please! Please! This is supposed to be a happy occasion! Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who."

There's a little racism in us all. Let's just do better, and discuss it elsewhere, please.
