On a documentary a few days ago a Korean War veteran said that he had to guard a position in Korea by himself against an expected North Korean night time attack. The veteran went on to say that as he wanted to give the impression to the North Koreans that he was not alone he decided that he would alternate between firing an M1icon Carbine, an M1 Garand and also throwing grenades.

I realise that the Garand fires a larger, full size rifle round, than the M1 Carbine, before someone points it out, but would there be much audible difference in sound, to an enemy some distance away, between an M1 Carbine and a M1 Garand firing alternately to each other, with a few grenade explosions in between?
