I’m a HUGE fan of tastefully sporterized Springfield 1903s.
I have a few with scopes and they look pretty snazzy. Personally, I *prefer* the looks of an iron-sighted rifle.
However, when done tastefully and in a historically accurate way, I see no reason not to drill a couple holes in a rifle that’s already a sporter.
The original poster here isn’t talking about a picatinny rail and a red dot. He’s talking about a Griffin and Howe side mount. That’s perfect for this rifle!
I wholeheartedly believe the original owner of this rifle would be tickled with that modification.
Bonus points if it ends up with a vintage scope, too!
