    I seem to remember those exact phones being used on the rifle ranges well into the late 70's - maybe even a bit longer. Replaced with an armoured plastic boxed and waterproof set. Yours looks to have been well waterproofed with a stuff we called 'prestikon' or 'luting'.

    My friend Pete Truran waterproofed every nook and cranny, openings, box sections, vents...... everything on his brand new MG 1100 in the 70's What he'd done is to seal all the damp INTO the box sections. So, like every other BMC and BL car of the era, the corrosion just festered and still rotted out within a couple of years
