Better day today. Vietnam era 1956 butt pack dated 1962, three M14icon ammo pouches and a 1945 Garand cleaning rod case for $11. Some cleaning and repairs required but all usable. A little bag of insignia with Civil Air Patrol rank and collar tabs for $1, one is a screw back US. And a WWII era Enger-Kress undated M3 holster for $30.

Hard to read them so not sure on the dates

Today I lucked into a WWII Schlueter Manufacturing Company shell with a 1982 liner for $20. The shell is in good condition, no dents or cracks to speak of. I know it's no longer original WWII but I still think that's a good deal. Seller assumed it was 1982 production because of the liner and I didn't check the shell until I got back to the car. Picked up an odd WWI garrison cap also. The cap isn't odd so much but the insignia is. I'm stumped. There was a standard sized round unit insignia on it at one point that was removed but the MLW comes up empty in all my searches. Got it for pretty cheap from the same guy.

I don't know if I have clips around for it here or not. I'll have to dig around. Seems I may have a set or two somewhere. What would you recommend on the holster?

Use a toothpick and pick the verdigris from around the brass fittings but I think you know that already. The lift the dot and bottom snap are likely dry but when you oil the leather they should get some lube too and then they don't stick and break. I did a couple pieces a month ago using wood wax wiped on and removed. It softens and preserves. I used to use dubbin or sno seal like I used for my boots...

I'm sure you'll get the phone book on this shortly, everyone telling everyone else how wrong they are. That's usually how this goes.
    Regards, Jim

I learned a lot about M1icon helmets today. The liner is a 1965 Firestone. The liner band is 1982. The liner was made 21 June 1965.

Now THAT makes a lot more sense to me. I grew up wearing those and even then could tell things weren't the same. That liner looked WAY older that '80s, we had lots of those show up at the end of the M1icon helmet. The mulit colored liner strips showed an older liner. The "80s liners were uniform color and greenish. Firestone is a nice catch, the little "F" stylized...

They are all telling me to leave it alone other than get an appropriate headband for it. Legit early Vietnam helmet. I’ll keep my eyes open for a cover and elastic band for it. I put that headband on a 1980’s helmet and liner I have that was missing it.

One neighborhood yard sale on the 4th I bought some things from this fellow before, in fact he offered this too me one previous year but I declined. He brought this back from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Claims it came from an Iraqi officer and could very well have come from an Iraqi officer, but I doubt it was any kind of presentation knife, just something he carried. In any case, it's interesting and here it is. The image is Genghis Khan. Appears to be in an AK frog. Fairly modern construction. Iraqi was conquered by the Mongols so there is a connection, seems an odd one for a knife however.
