    Spanish Oviedo Model 1893

Just picked this up. Seemingly a typical Spanish Oviedo M1893...however we have a hinged mag floorplate with a mag floorplate release in the trigger guard similar to a Japaneseicon Type 38.
Any thoughts? Have never seen this.

    Hi,

Maybe this thread will be helpful for you. I have heard about this arrangement on Oviedo 1916s, but not 1893s, until investigating yours. Apparently, this is not common, but also is known to collectors.

All I can say is the Spanish re-worked and re-built their rifles over the years mixing and matching whatever parts fit and worked. I have a Polish WZ that had mostly Germanicon parts on it that worked great because I also got a German AZ that needed it's metal bands, etc. Polish parts are available, German ones weren't.

I don't think the swapping is deliberate, it's just a matter of a couple of rifles not working and combining the two to make a good one.
