    Common practice to have a clip or two where they can be had quickly, those are on the strap for that bag at his hip. Many slipped one on their rifle sling.
    Thanks I see it now….two straps going over his left shoulder. At first it looked like just one strap to me and that the back of the en-bloc was magically attached to it. I see how the second strap threads through the rounds.

    Lots of guys did that too. They just aren't as durable but they don't last long in use. Even commonwealth troops are shown with a water bottle and a couple bandoleers, no webbing at all.
