The serial number is on the list, but there is so much wrong with that rifle at first glance.

However, upon checking again, the list shows 12th July 1979 for this rifle.

Looks odd, but who knows. Maybe the front pad screw has been drilled and tapped to a larger size due to thread stripping?

The bolt looks like the serial number is engraved, so maybe a replacement. The D6E is missing, but it says it's a 1943 rifle, so possibly before standardised stamps?

There are several 1979 Rifles shown, this one is from batch no.75

I agree, the most likely reason for the front one of the front pad screws being oversize is because the threads got stripped. The other two screws look like 4BA's, although they are flat heads not 'correct' instrument heads.

It looks like it has been extensively but reasonably well refinished/rebuilt to me.......maybe another reason why it doesn't look quite 'right'.

I don't think the lack of a D6E matters on an AB prefixed 43 rifle. It appeared during the course of the year but not till rather later, so I don't think that is a worry.

The rifles from Navy Arms are legit. It's on the list but as stated above, has been worked on extensively and must have had a badly stripped front pad screw. I'd have to say that the vast majority of L42A1 rifles that didn't wind up getting the gas axe have been worked on extensively. The majority finishing their careers at the sniper schools being worked hard through class after class.
