Scotarms ceased trading

Not sure if it’s been covered before, but it’s an end of an era for Scotarms, it seems they ceased trading last year in August, not sure why unless Mike fell off his perch ?

I was looking on line , as I’m after a few bits and was going to see when next auction was, Last time I was at Mikes was around 2 years ago, dropping some bits off for an auction, ( actually it was 30 odd Firearms with a few Shotguns thrown in) Mike did comment then, that the U.K. gun industry was finished …..

Around last September I went onto the website to see when the next auction was, to find they had closed.

The last few auctions I attended he was using 'stand ins' rather than be up on the rostrum himself. I don't think it ever fully recoved after C19.

It’s a shame Alan, as probably the last auction house who did take in crap ….( one man’s junk as another man’s treasure) I did get a few bargains over the years , plus a few melons.

His barn was full when I dropped my last lot off, there was racks and racks of old target rifles ( converted Enfields, P14,s etc)

I did hear that he had 100s (1000s) of unsold items that had repeatedly been in the auction and remained unsold - they were going to scrap / gas axe.

10 - 15 - 20 years ago there were some really good buys and the Enfield was not the collectible it is now. One of my most profitable buys was a large box of "assortment on Lee Enfield parts including sights".


There was dozens of bits and pieces I wanted (but of course you cannot show too much interest in a lot), then, in the bottom of the box were 3x No4T scope brackets.I won it at £100 + buyers premium.
I took out the bits I wanted and later sold the scope brackets and other parts for over £1000.
Not being an RFD (Registered Firearm Dealer) restricted what I could purchase - I could have had 10x SMLE barrels for £10 but was not allowed to bid !

I did buy my 'fair share' of shotguns for between £1 and £10 each - my little light weight 'poachers folding 410' is still with me.

Over the last few years the prices crept up and up and for much of the stuff I was priced out of the market.

That would be a pity. Job lots on eBay would get rid of such stuff if not prohibited items.

Probably 90%+ was firearms.
Many were shotguns, where, even when bundled 3 or 4 or 5 of them together they could not get a bid of (say) £5.
I did get an 'as new' BSA 12g, folding, single, for £1

They had quite a lot of P14 and Lee Enfied No4s that were sporterised and some converted to 7.62 NATO that no one wants.

I had a very nice No4 7.62 conversion that I had made into an Enforcer look alike that I wanted £100 for.
After 3 years of 'no bites' I stripped it down, kept the mag and the sights / mounts and scrapped it, to get it off my licence.

Mike Scott I've known for over forty years. He took over Weller & Dufty when Ron Dufty sold up, running it from its original site in Birmingham for some time, before moving it all up to where he lives in Nottinghamshire. The business name also changed at this time. I don't know all of the details, but I believe Mike has bowel cancer. He was intending to hold one last sale late last year, but this never came off, & he no longer trades, but AFAIK is still with us. I hope that may continue for as long as possible.
