Screw staking would be another practice from rifle team armorers that would filter down to standard Marine M1903 service rifles." Stick a micrometer on the front post of the trigger guard. I bet it's a bit shorter than the spec, which I don't have at hand.

    Not sure what "normal" is, but the tang projection is .453" high on my rifle.
