L42A1 AB7877 - Does it appear on the list?

With scope 25293 (apparently) popped up 2024-09-21 in Houston, Texas, USA. A 1943 BSA converted in 1979. With L42A1 transit chest. Scope case reportedly with it. Rifle and chest appear to be in very nice condition.

Pretty sure I already know the answer to this but thought it's worth double checking - L42 serial 18247 (or to be fully correct it should be quoted as 'AN 18247'). Is this listed please?

TBH I didn't even check the list DD as I'm sure from just the on line photo's that it is......shall we say, a 'tribute rifle'! If I'd checked the serial against the list I don't think it would have changed my opinion......just made me think that the creator had a copy too! When someone told me there was a stripped L42 in the sale I was casually interested as well, as it would have made a nice restoration project. Changed my mind about bidding when I saw the pics. Having said that, if it comes for an appropriate price it may well make a good shooter.

I happened across it whilst there for a viewing. The s/n and date was puzzling as I didn't think I have seen any 1943 Maltby 4Ts referenced anywhere and it was pretty obvious that it hadn't started its pre-"L42" marked life as a 4T. Apart from that the main alarm bell was that it just seemed 'off', especially the L42 markings.

The bore was filthy but may well make a good 'tribute' shooter. I took a few photos of it in my hands. Happy to pm them if of interest.

Yes, Kev, I twigged it was a 43 Maltby. Little prospect of that ever having been a real 4T in its previous life. Mind you, I have seen one 42 Maltby 4T which I am sure was correct, though never a B 1942, or at least, not to date. Thinning out my WW2 stuff to concentrate on Great War kit, but I have two very honest early 4T's (B1941 & ROFM1941) that I shall hang on to.......
