Marine sniper, Korea. All the small things add up. The AP ammo was found to shoot better than ball so it became the normal ammo. My guys once brought me a disintegrating clip of eight AP in Ft Lewis WA while we were doing some sort of battle run, very wet area. This would have been dropped during those times. Given the forward placement of the scope turrets it looks like a Kollmorgen with a improvised sun shield

Great photo. In another nod to the nostalgia of the past, it also illustrates a favorite of mine - field jackets with buttons!
