Marine sniper, Korea. All the small things add up. The AP ammo was found to shoot better than ball so it became the normal ammo. My guys once brought me a disintegrating clip of eight AP in Ft Lewis WA while we were doing some sort of battle run, very wet area. This would have been dropped during those times. That's not the Kollmorgen scope though? It's the Griffon and Howe mount...
    Regards, Jim

Given the forward placement of the scope turrets it looks like a Kollmorgen with a improvised sun shield
He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose
There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.

Great photo. In another nod to the nostalgia of the past, it also illustrates a favorite of mine - field jackets with buttons!

Oh, for the days when our troops weren't burdened with the tactically impractical, far too noisy (errrripp!), and easily clogged, Velcro closures.

    USMC S/Sgt Boitnott

Considered to be the best US sniper of the Korean War, S/Sgt Boitnott once killed nine enemy snipers in four days.

He sometimes uses Pvt Friday to walk back and forth as bait -, until the officers found out
    and discontinued this practice

He used the M1D rifle and longest kill was 1250 yards
