I'm guessing the 40mm gunners don't ride there, just taking post during a halt? Those open wheels would throw lots of crap up. Can't quite see what the next gun along is doing.

Think so? That was my first thought but it looks a bot mis-shaped. Could be crunched on though, it was a common practice.
