A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. When was the bayonet lug put on the m1 carbine
He also fought on Bougainville where he got wounded leading an operation against a jap machine gun nest
Knowing this is a carbine bayonet he may have picked it up there
Like most vets he never talked about actual combat just some side stories when he was there
Thanks all for the info on this bayonet

That's always been a subject of controversy. There's a video showing a B29 ditching and at vid end there's a carbine with bayonet lug shown. The video is 1945. I'll bet most carbines didn't have them until about time to go to Korea. I don't want to speculate on where it came from but as a past serving member myself, those things can come from anywhere and they go into the pile with everything else. I just doubt it was procured until late war.
