Looks like it could be a Mk1/2 rifle by the patch where the PLATE, Tie, fore-end has been removed, patched and replaced with a screw and nut, tie, fore-end

Most No.9's went to the navy; the No.7's appear to have been issued mainly to the guards and paras, the rest stayed with the "wider" army until the introduction of the SLR.
