    Question M1D advert returns...

    Posted on CGN ....

    Winchester Sniper M1D (click here)

If you can't view the advertisement, it's probably due to the fact that you have to subscribe to the EE (Equipment Exchange) forums on CGN, in order to view them.

    Seller says:

    Winchester Sniper M1D

I offer this rifle for sale .Below are pictures of the barrel stampings top( ie Drawing number) right side (month and year the rifle was built into a sniper) . All the wood has been stamped with the last four numbers of the serial number. The leather cheekpiece is stamped MRT 3-52, the two brass screws that secure the cheekpiece from moving around are missing, there are two holes in the stock where they should be secured. There appears to be a small stamp that looks like crossed connons above the number 3 on the buttstock grip area. The M-82 scope is an original Garandicon sniper scope(with sliding sunshade) but not original to this rifle, it has more wear to the finish than the rifle does to it's finish. The bore looks perfect bright, shinny, sharp rifling. I do not have a thaoat erosion guage to use.The operating rod and trigger group are stamped WRA. If you have any questions just ask! Asking price delivered and insured ---$2995.00--

Well, besides being more than a one day sale ....

The price went up $5 and some more pics have been added (see above) ....

I still don't think it's worth anywhere near this kind of money and I don't understand the barrel numbering issue descrepancy. Perhaps it's been legitimately changed?

However, I am far from an expert on M1D Garand sniper rifles, but before I'd lay out almost $3,000 for this one (I paid a lot less than $2,000 for one I have), I'd do some serious research and ask for a reasonable "Inspection and Return" time period on this old girl.

    "Caveat Emptor"

    Badger

My math shows $506. Guess that is to teach the fencesitters a lesson for waiting.

I sold a Winchester for $1600 last year, and it included the flashider, which is worth about $400 as well. Guess I wasn't nearly so optimistic.
