We've been getting alot of calls trying to sell us "extended warranty coverage" on our cars. We ask the caller if this is a "telemarketing call" (it is), to which they immediately answer that they are not a telemarketing company and the Government's Do Not Call list doesn't apply to them (it does). They also state that they are not trying to sell anything.
Supposedly, there is a "Do Not Call" list generated by the Federal Government several years ago. This list was suppose to stop telemarketing harrasment calls which none of these telemarketing companies say applies to them. The companies state in their opening lines that if you do not want to receive their calls, to dial a certain number. Dialing that number will promptly disconnect the call and put you back into the cycle. Talking to their reps doesn't help either, they simply hang up on you.
The calls seem to come in spurts - sometimes two or three calls a day, then nothing for two weeks. What I've done, if nothing else seems to work, is to tell their reps that I've recorded their number and will be turning them into the State's Attorneys Office. That seems to work.
