    '03 has a uniform diameter section for rear sight base.

    '03-A3 does not as the rear sight is on the receiver.

    Those visible in the photo are '03-A3.

    M1903, barrel diameter at shoulder: ~ 1.145"

    M1903A3 barrel diameter at shoulder: ~1.200

    M1903, front sight attachment: spline milled integral with barrel. Notch in spling at rear for fixed base pin.

    M1903A3 front sight attachment: three milling cuts form a seat for removeable .1" square key. Key has notch in middle for 03A3 front sight base pin.

    If the M1903 barrel has ever had a rear sight fixed base attached to it, it will have a longitudinal slot at the shoulder, in the 10:00 or 2:00 position; and a transverse slot at the 6:00 position in approx 2.9" forward of the shoulder.
