Camp Perry Visit today
Went to Perry today to check out Commercial Row. I figured if they were having the pistol matches, if any rifle powder and primers were to be had, I better get there before the rifle matches begin. Champion Choice and otheres were there. I am happy to say that Powder and Primers were available and they were not rip of prices. Pricing was the same as before the November 2008 rush began. They had powder in 1 lb and 8 lb containers. Various brands. Same for primers, mostly the 1000 count boxes. If you going to shoot rifle this year, and need primers, bullets and powder, suggest you get there as early as you can.
I have not been to Perry during the Pistol segment so I can't say if the turn out of shooters was normal, low or a high turnout. Compared to the rifle matches, there was room to spare on the line.
Since I was there with a fellow shooter that had never been to Perry, I gave him the full tour of the grounds and on the way out we stopped at CMP
North Store. Large number of M1
Carbines, about 55% of the rifles there, the rest were Garands, a couple of 1917's and the usual rack of M44 and Kimber .22 cal rifles. The greatest majority of Carbines and Grands were all rack grade. However, the Special Grade Garands with the new CMP Stock and Barrels looked like they came off the assembly line in the 1940's. Really terrific looking and I could imagine a new recruit being handed one for the first time. If it were not for the price, $900, I would have bought one. Kind a short on the funds for anything in that price range right now.
No 1903 or 03A3's in the racks.
Talked to many folks, stopped at the USMC trailer, although they are pistol smiths one of them did do a little work on Garands. I mentioned CSP
to him and gave him the directions to CSP and that we had our resident expert Gus Fisher. The young kid pops up, you know I came across several book and or manuals that had the name Gus Fisher written in them. So Gus, if your reading this, any material you left behind is still being used.
It was a terrific day weather wise, people wise and the overall experience of the day and I never even fired a shot.
Hope your day went as well.
John
