The USS Tennessee in 1943 after a major "makeover". The picturewas taken in Puget Sound, I believe.

Nice rifle. If I'm understanding you though, the serial number is just close to the other USMC rilfes in the SRS and is not actually listed.

Jim,

In addition to being a M1903 nut and a WWII airplane nut, I'm also a U.S. battleship nut! (My wife usually leaves off the "battleship" when describing me!). The picture shows either the Tennessee or California and I recognized the picture from another source as the Tennessee. As I recall, she was rebuilt in late 1942 and early 1943 at Bremerton, in Puget Sound and the scenery looked like that around Puget Sound. I checked a reference book and I was right (for once!).

For the record, I am an honorary lifetime member of the USS Washington [BB-56] Reunion Group.

Theoretically, the picture could be of either the Tennessee or the California but the photo is in several authoritative books as the Tennessee. What is interesting to me is that the ship could be sailing through he general area where I now live.
