Jim - If I may ask..what era stocks do you have and does the installation look to be original install??

The slotted nuts (versus bolts) are normal. It is how the assembly is tightened. I didn't mean to give the impression that the bolt was slotted.

Thanks for the clarification. I felt confident the (Spanner style) nuts are authentic. Per my OP I've never seen slotted Bolt heads before. Just how these slotted bolts came to be on the stock I'm currently researching is another question.

I'm doing some research on my stock as it presents a number of other yet un-resolved questions to my untrained eye.
