Apples and oranges. Hathcock used a Browning M2 .50 with a 12x Unertl scope, not trying to take anything away from the Canucks but, Their equipment is light years ahead of what Carlos had. 40-60x scopes with laser-rangefinders and on-board computers? So, that's really an unfair comparison. They should have a different record for modern sniping equipment. Still, very much quite the accomplishment. Ay?

I don't think any consideration is given to available technology in any other military record held so I don't see why this would be any special. In another 10 years they will have something even better and a new record will be set. I'm sure whoever Hathcock usurped wasn't using something as powerful as a .50
