In general (despite rare exceptions):
1) No, it would have left the factory with a gunmetal (looks like brass) buttplate.
2) Not necessarily. Most were, but Longbranch also sometimes used Ilco marked ones supplied by that subcontractor, which is normally most associated with Savage. It's also possible that the very earliest LB pattern Mk1(no *) rifles in 1941 had brass buttplates before quickly switching to zamac, but I've never seen one in person.
3) It's Zamac, not Zanac.
