EMcF/ Ordnance emblem size question
Need some expert input here quick! I'm bidding on a supposedly original EMcF stock with a straight clip latch cut. It is nicely marked with a excellent cartouche and a LARGE ordnance emblem. All I have available for reference right now is the Duff field guide and all of the ones he references have the small emblem like my other original. Is the EMcF with a large emblem legit? I do have a later SA/GAW with a large emblem so I know they were used. What is the significance of the differant sizes?

If the stamp is not faked , yes they had large wheels and they used them all they way thru WWII but there not very common after the GHS period. It appears that this was a inspectors who was back on the line occasionally and they used the Large wheel then.
Hope this helps. Rick B

EMcF stock
If the stock has an original cartouche, it is possible to have a large wheel (also found on SA GAW stocks too) There are two variations of the flat bottom clip latch stock, first type is flat bottom and without the small crossed cannon stamp on the bottom of the pistol grip. Serials might run around late 1.5 to early 1.7 approx. Second variation has the flat bottom and crossed cannon stamp on the bottom flat of the pstol grip - approx 1.7 to end, expect some overlap in serial numbers.
The early EMcF with the tapered clip latch stock can also be found with the large crossed cannon stamp next to the cartouche

I am not convinced it is authentic.

I've got a large wheel, EMcF with flat bottom clip latch. I cannot remember for sure if there is a small wheel on the bottom of the grip but I'm pretty sure that there is. The EMcF is faint and the wheel is almost not there, but you can see them.

Thanks to all who responded! That was almost a very expensive mistake. The more I looked at it, the worse I felt, especially after looking at my good one. Thankfully I was outbid. According to the seller, these supposedly came from Numrich 15 years ago. Someone just got a pricey lump of coal for thier Christmas stocking.

The description of the EMcF stock is very interesting. Note that it says "This a great original stock", but it not address the originality of the stampings. Carefully worded, it is a technically and probably legally correct description....

That was the other part that bothered me as well after I really read through the description more carefully. I e-mailed the seller and explained that my bid was based on the stock AND markings being original WW II vintage. He e-mailed back with the story about the Numrich connection and said he thought they were real. He also offered a 3 day inspection. I would have had the e-mails to back up a complaint to Gunbroker, but, at least for me, the problem solved itself with the other bidder. Lesson here is read the description like a lawyer would and always caveat emptor. And get a second opinion from the people here!
