Need help with my 1903a4 rebuild!

So I think I finally got what I need to finish this project, just need a little knowledge to complete it. I picked this rifle up at the gun show a few days ago. Payed $650. The action was mounted on a very nice scant stock with a drawing number D-35526-4 stamped above the sling swivel. Post-war rebuild? But I already had the C-stock waiting so that is what you see. It has a very nice shiny barrel and what I think is an original bent bolt? You tell me.

Now, what can you tell me about this mount? How old? Original? The way the rear is shaped it doesnt look made for the 03a3 rear sight base.

The hole in the front of the receiver looks to be a hair off center. Can you tell by its relationship to the receiver markings(Model 03-A3). It looks as if the drill bit started in the right spot and then slid down a little before catching. More important to me than that, I need a set of screws for this mount. What is the correct size and where can i get them cheap? Didnt this setup originally call for a front shim? Do I need it? Where can I get it?

The scope is a Weaver J 2.5. I like the fact that it is the right magnification and it looks good enough too.
As you can see, I also need to inlet(correct term?) the stock for the bent bolt. I'll probably try the dremel tool since this is a budget project, suggestions? I just want something to shoot that "looks" original. That Gibbs rifle is not for me. Help me get this thing out to the range!

Use the "direct link" in Photobucket when you place your pics. Use the "insert image" icon (looks like a yellow postcard with a mountain) when you paste your link. Should look like this. If it doesn't preview correctly, you missed something.

Hopefully this will help the guys check out your rifle, so you can get some help. Looks like a nice one. After looking at some of the pics in the album, you have an "a4 repro" not a rebuild. I'm sure there are some guys with more knowledge of a4 than I have to steer you in the right direction. At least it's not a converted drill rifle.

in responce to your question reguarding relationship of the mount to the markings - although the A4s were marked A3 they were specific made and the markings on a true A4 are shifted so as not to be concealed by the mount , A4s fall into specific serial number ranges ,

mine is an A4gery , meaning it is an A3 drilled and tapped to accept the redfield mount , this was a common occurance , this covers the serial number/model markings such that they cannot be read while the mount is in place ,

the mounts IIRC that were military were blued , i think the parked ones are commercial - redfield made a lot of them ,





i kept my "C" stock on my 03A1 , and left the A4gery in the scant , but due to chamber problems i also converted my A4gery to a SS-22cal

I changed the megapixels on my camera and was able to get images down to 450kb but not down to the 193.5 kb limit. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks Badger- I did finally figure out how to post pics using photobucket via the forums help and faq's sections. I'm a little slow! Since Im now comfortabe doing it that way Ill probably stick with it!

what part of the country did this rifle come from..
i think i sold some of the parts on that rifle.
