No4 Scope Options
Hi Folks, I recently acquired a 1945 No4 Mk1* Long Branch that I'd like to put a scope on. I was wondering if the repro no. 32 scopes are worth the cash, or if there are other options out there that would look appropriate to the style of this old warhorse. The rifle is completely original in all other respects.
Thanks,
Dan

I personally would use one of the No-Gunsmithing type mounts for example:

Thanks paulseamus, but I think that by the time I factor in the 3000$ for the scope plus shipping and divorce it might be a little pricey, any suggestions on a less expensive option?

In that case Bang on, keep hold of your scope money but invest in a set of repop pads and bracket. They're good enough for what you're going to need. Got that.......? You can then mount any old 1" diameter scope to keep you shooting but while you are, keep your eyes open for a tatty old heap of a No32 telescope at some of the shows. They are out and about there, I know. Get that and have it rebuilt. Then all you've got to do is fit your newly rebuilt No32 scope and there you have it, a perfect(?) repop No4T

I would go along with the advise from Simon P, you can also get a similar mount like the Armalon one on ebay for a round $60 US, (all steel) then the rings and scope of your choice or budget, if your budget stretches then buy a PH sight also, then you have the best of both worlds and still have a rifle that you can return it to its former glory and will hold its price.
If you are set on a repro No4 (T) as Peter describes, then look out for a sporterized No4, plenty of them still about and the damage has already been done, look out for the bits and pieces over time to rebuild it and look out on ebay for a No32 scope, then follow his instructions too a tee and you cant go wrong, but please dont go drilling & tapping a nice 1945 No4 Mk1* LB if if there is nothing wrong with it.

I agree with Big Duke Bang-on. DO NOT drill holes unless it's to mount the real McCoy. You cannot UN-drill holes!
But come a bit closer, I want to let you into a little secret............ There are some repop REL/Canadian No32 telescopes in Canada as we speak and these would match up with your No4. No names - no pack drill, but a source tells me that because of many factors, not least because the person who instituted them knows what he's doing and frequents this site, these are the best of the repops. You never know, he might just email you...................

The Armalon mount doesn't look like the real mount does it? I think I might hold out and do as you (Big Duke and Peter) suggest and pick up a sporterized no 4 and keep this one as is, and I'm not willing to drill holes in it, it strikes me as a poor way to treat such a nice firearm. I also like the idea of restoring a sporter to its "original" condition.
Thanks for the input guys.

Making a repro No4(T) can end up near costing what a real (T) cost. The current repro No32 scopes are not really very good if you plan on shooting, great for wall hanging.
You can add a no-drill mount (I like the S&K) and a old steel tube Weaver (K2.5) pretty cheap, have good glass, a good shooter and you haven't drilled any holes.
They don't look to bad either.
