    Dating a Chinese SKS

I found a site that explains how to date them if they have the /26\ but in 1963 they started putting 3 Chinese characters on there that represent "Type 56" and I guess that's when stuff starts getting tricky.
    http://www.yooperj.com/SKS-24.htm

Does anyone know how to date these later models?

    1. yooper is a great site .

    2. but he is incorrect about the intro of the chinese character in 1963 , i have a pic of a /26\ 1962 with the 3 chinese character.

    3. dating a /26\ is the same right to end of production in 1981. you cannot date other chinese factories.

    216

Yeah it is a factory 216.

    /216\ "Chinese Characters" R17*****

The importer stamp says "SKS 7.62x39 CHINA NORINCO CSI ONT CA"

    All matching #'s

The inside of the stock looks fairly old....

Does the sling mount on the side of the stock mean anything cause i've seen them on the bottom of some Chinese sks

The stock is cut for spike bayo....

no, the barrel lug is the shoulder that meets the receiver , see pic in yooper site below.

    Yooper John

you cant date a chinese SKS that isnt from factory 26 , all other chinese SKS falls into a production classification .

long barrel lug : early production

short barrel lug : mid production

    pinned barrel : late production
