Going rate for an original M1 Carbine

Hello,
I don't currently have the money but I was wondering what the going rate for an all original M1 Carbine is? I will be looking for one in decent shape, used but not abused. Common manufacturer like Inland made in say early-1944? Am I correct in assuming Inland would be the cheapest manufacturer?

Condition is everything. The 5.6 Win featured in the CC last year was essentially new. The chances of finding a similar condition verified original like that are slim and none. You are working in a universe of thousands (probably less than a thousand) out of 800K+ made by Winchester. That carbine is worth what it will fetch, but probably $3000 isn't out of the picture. There are quite a few original carbine out there, far more than people realize, but there are also thousands of fakes disguised as "Correct" or "Nearly original" that are worth nothing more than a good Service Grade. So your running rules are: make very sure it is what they say it is before even considering buying.

I collect mostly Inlands and have several in the late 43 to early 44 original carbines and I can say that with the earlier features like flip sight and type 1 band the price goes up, but the later features are not much cheaper on original carbines.
You can figure around $1200 for that time frame. I have paid as little as $900 for a late '43 and as much as $1600 for a super nice early '44. I also have two very, very nice WRA's that are in the 5.8 and 6.5 serial number rangers and both are original and truly mint and they were both under $2000, so you can use this numbers to help in your quest, but keep your eyes peeled because deals do come along. A friend of mine just picked up a S'G' original with a ton of accessories and paid 1k for it shipped.

No rush. I have 4,927,xxx which is a rebuild with some late features. I always enjoy seeing how one like it originally looked. A lot was happening the closer they got to 5.0.

Are there any production tables like with the garand? I don't recall seeing any in Canfield's book.

The Carbine Club Newsletters have detailed listings when they review a specific Maker Serial number block. I think you can buy individual issues, not sure though. The Carbine Club - A CMP Affiliated Organization For sure you can buy the whole library of old newsletters back to 1977 or whatever, for around $280 I think.

This picture came from Gloria's forum back in the old days, so pardon me if I can't recall who posted it, but he was from Norway. It was said to be a 5.0 Inland but I don't know exactly what the number is. It was dropped in Norway for the resistance fighters during the German occupation. This is the whole kit and caboodle. I figure this carbine is in the exact configuration it had when accepted. Note the Type II band, Type III stock and adjustable sight. This is how mine is configured, with a round bolt and Type V slide too. So this is what I meant by 'a lot was happening' around the 5.0 mark - these changes were put in within just a few thousand numbers.
