The opportunity arose for me to look at two Enfields, A.) 1914 NoI, nice wood, matching parts, good condition. B.) Faz FTR No4 Mk1/2, matching wood, bolt, receiver same nice shooting condition.
The guy was thinking of parting with them, thinking about $425 each, and I was stuck. I think $425 is high for the 1914, and close for the 1/2. If he decides to part with one or both what would an viable option? Thanks for youe help.

P.S. I know pics would help, and I will see if he will let me photo them.

I'd get the No.1 first, but the answer you're looking for is obviously to get both of them. i think you have the values wrong. A good condition matching 1914 No.1 is worth the $400 odd - not that many 1914s survived for obvious reasons., The No.4 you can get cheaper.

Agree with Newcastle. If the SMLE is an original, intact and complete MkIII, it's a real steal at $425. The Mk 1/2 is high at $425.

In the UK you're generally talking £600+ for a no1 mk3 (no star) so to me that's a bargain, assuming the condition etc is good and it's not been put together. If you love history and firearms it's got to be the 1914 rifle. For me, as an Englishman the emotional pull of such a gun from the 'old comtemptibles' era would be too great to turn down.

I to think the No.1 is the best value. The No.4 would probley be the best shooter. Well maybe not! In my neck of the woods, Wi., I have gotten No.4's for much less, 185.00 to 225.00.

Well he is holding onto the No4 Mk1/2, that makes life easier. It was good to hear the info abou the No1's sometimes I get tunnel vision and forget about asking. I should add the 1914 is a No MkIII* with a well manicured "Ishy Screw" but still has the cutoff.

The No1 Mk111* was not approved until Jan 1916 and as you say an Indian Ishapore make up based on a Mk111 action possibly making the rifle slightly cheaper than that being asked. Good condition Ishapore rifles in the Uk generally sell for around £250 ($404.00).

I am going to look at the rifle today and offer a price. I really want to look at the stock and bits since it is 1914 perhaps I am missing something. The screw was machined and recessed into the stock, the stock was clean.
