Just pick up a Winchester M1, question about stock marking.

Just pick up a Winchester M1icon Carbine and the majority of parts have a W. Question about stock has a Roman # V or letter. Serial # dates 44. Any help will be appreciated[IMG][/IMG].

Thanks, been looking for Winchester for awhile and landed on nice older model with flip sights and push safety.

Nice M1icon's, if the V is in Several Places on a Winchester this could Possibly mean The Type as in 5 but just a thought. I read a post from another forum about this V on Winchester M1 Carbines, but I could be wrong. Happy Shooting

The "V" is most likely an inspector's mark. I don't think it's an indication of what stock version it is. I have a small handful of Winchester carbine stocks that are marked there. And yes, the rear sight looks "out of place" in a way. I thought that yesterday when I first looked at this thread. It is a nice Winchester in a lot of ways though.

Looks like a hammer was used to remove and install the rear site! GK

I have a Win about 3000 pieces ahead of yours. Mine has the type 3 rear sight but they were a mix of flips and adj at this time. The sear bothers me a bit because by this time, Winchester was polishing the end that engages the trigger in an effort to get trigger pull down. Mine is very shiny at that end. Nice looking gun.

I like the triplets picture at the end. Though the pilots knife made me laugh. What is the date on the pommel?
