welding question
I have a tanker garand that has an H&R trigger housing. The floor plate was
cut out to accept the M14
magazines. One of the prongs has broken off and
the housing is a late H&R cast metal part. Can this be welded back? Is
there a specific type of welding procedure to weld cast parts? TIA

buy a new trigger housing, cheaper, and it will actually work when done.

Do you mean a garand trigger assembly or an M14
assembly? A "smith" of
the shade tree variety did this conversion and used a complete M1 assembly
and altered it to accept m14 mags including the mag catch, etc. I have an
extra M1 trigger housing, but would rather just weld the part back onto the
guard. This is my 2nd tanker garand in 308, but it is by far the spookiest in
the way it was converted. Can this weld be done? What is the technique
called? Thanks

I wasn't aware that any M1
parts were ever cast??
I would try to TIG it if it wee mine.

its not cast , so a good wire feed gas welder can do the job...but i use the term good. harbor frieght, Lowes, Walmart doesnt sell good welders.
you will need to use a C steel wire., a number 31 thickness is what i use.
Lincon, Thermal Arc. ect are the types of welders needed.
any good welding shop should be able to do the job, youll have to clean up the weld to make it look right.
a oicture of what you need to weld would help.

I stand corrected about the "cast" part of my description. Chuck, thank you
for the information. I have two good welding shops to talk with about this
project next week. Just wish your Denver was North Carolina Denver instead
of Colorado. Have a nice weekend, hammer51 out.

Beretta BM-59 trigger housings are Garand
trigger housings converting to take magazines and they work well with the M-14 magazine conversions. They can usually be found for not too much money.

Bear in mind, you will probably have to clean up the weld with hand files and then re-parkerize the housing. Not too difficult, just use Radocy on your stovetop.
