My buddy originally had an East Taylor M12 adapter for his commercial Model 12 conversion but said fit loosely so chose the M97 instead. His conversion was done by a professional with the M97 adapter and from my impression it looked perfect. Anyway while I'm waiting for my East Taylor adapter I'll try fitting one of the flats out of curiosity.

Photos are the conversion mentioned above -

how does your bayonet adapter fit after cutting back the barrel? I'd imagine if the heat shield didn't rest perfectly against the barrel on its dimples, it could be massaged into perfection.

My original adapter fits flush with the end of my barrel as it should for the M12. You may notice his barrel extends past the adapter for some reason like the M97.
The dimples on his shield sit just slightly above the barrel and when the gun is held as in firing, the dimples rest firmly on the barrel as I would assume they're originally intended.

Briefly checking in - nothing further to mention as this point on bending the flat heat shields. I haven't had much time to devote but hope to get back to it ASAP. I'm planning on visiting a couple friends that may be able to provide assistance. I feel confident something will work out and I'll be looking forward to posting any results.
    Regards to all...

Yesterday I consulted with a long time friend and former Australianicon Navy machinist and he gave me some 4130 pipe the same diameter as the M12 barrel. I hope to get it cut in half and make some male/female plugs. Should be a simple enough job to hammer it in shape then. It might be a week or so before getting it cut but will get back. Also the rear end of rounded shield will need to be finished with a neatly rounded edge as noted in the photo.

Did you say you also placed an order with https://partsforantiqueguns.com for a kit?
I corresponded early last week with Jack Schwartz there asking some questions about fit, to which he promptly replied. I then placed an order on the site on tues. and paid for a 97 and M12 kit, and promptly got an email the next morning of order cancelled, we are not accepting orders at this time. I haven't gotten a reply back on when he thinks it will open up again. I suppose I'll just have to make do with riot guns until he does, since that seems to be the only source for them.

Prior to my orders East Taylor wasn't taking orders but I kept checking for several days and apparently got lucky and was able to order both Model 12 and M97 adapters. The M12 was ordered March 2. Following the order a friend told me his M12 adapter from East Taylor was a loose fit for his M12 conversion so he ended up using a M97 instead. Based on that I ordered a M97 on Mar 21. Both orders were accepted but will still need to wait another 2-3 months.

Since Sarco doesn't appear to be a source right now keep checking the parts for antique guns website and hopefully you'll get an order in.

As a brief follow up on the flat shields - I haven't had an opportunity to do anything more yet but will post any further progress soon as possible.
