Hospitalization rates are not increasing? Since November 14th to today, December 14, the reported U.S. hospitalization rate has gone from 505,715 to 618,576. That is an increase a 112,861 person increase in the last month. I don't know the specific numbers from Virginia but the charts show about the same average increase as most other states. I am a retired RT and my wife is still employed as an ICU specific RT. Most of our friends are Nurses, Respiratory Therapists and Physicians and everyone is overworked, stressed and just about at the end of their frayed ropes. Anyone who thinks this virus is a political hoax or no worse than the common flu needs get their head out of whatever dark place it is in and start listening to the scientists, virologists and quit hearing people with a personal agenda or a 'gut' feeling. Deaths for December 11th were 3300 but has gone down to 1311 today. Break out the Prosecco glasses!

Here in the UKicon national lockdowns have given way to regional measures.

Rates are increasing, UK deaths are over 60,000.

Still, 'so' many people here are taking the p*ss and not protecting the vulnerable.

Certain areas of the country have been worse than others for this ...

Have to second the hospitalization rates. They are going up significantly. I don't think they are near as bad as the media or the politicians are portraying them to be but they are going up. This was the excuse to close the businesses in the state once again. 1 in 5 hospitals is at 75% capacity in the ICU. Now this isn't all Covid which they don't tell you and these 1 in 5 are in more densely populated areas.

And once again, a lot of hospitals are forced to lay people off again. They claim they are overworked yet they are laying off nurses, doctors and support staff that don't work in the Covid field. Pretty sure they are all cross trained that they could work with Covid patients to give the primary care workers a break but that's what's going on.

Something really weird with my "insurance". I don't have real insurance, I have Medi-share which is a sharing program. I pay a "premium" every month and this goes towards paying other's medical expenses. It goes into an account and they send me a statement every month. I also get notices saying this much went to so and so for this. Yesterday I got my statement and it currently holds almost three month's worth of "premiums". This is really odd as my balance has been near zero or just at my premium depending when they sent it out. So they aren't paying my funds out. Obvious interpretation of this is there has been no one in need of my funds for the last two months. Could be supportive of the notion that people are not going to see their doctors for non-covid issues which in turn increases their risk to other problems.

Some other anecdotal "evidence", a friend of mine is friends with several grave diggers in the state capital region. One is contracted with 16 cemeteries, he's buried 4 people who died of Covid since March. A second one said he's handled less than 10 since March and accidental deaths are way down because people aren't out doing stupid stuff like driving, etc.

The wars between the dying businesses and the Governor are heating up. He has his agricultural department cracking down on the restaurants that refuse to close. Threatening them with fines, etc. The only real power he has is to take away their liquor licenses but even that isn't as easy as He'd like them to think. And plenty of the restaurants don't sell liquor. Meanwhile, in California, they actually admitted they have zero evidence indoor dining is increasing the rate of spread. They simply want to keep people home.

Last night on the evening news, the vaccine was explained. It does not stop you from getting covid 19, it does not stop you from spreading covid 19. So what's the point. What it can do is reduce the severity of the virus symptoms. Considering the majority of people have almost no symptoms or no symptoms this seems like it's only beneficial to those at high risk. Apparently, I fall into that as our state is rationing it to those over 55. I'm not all that inclined to get it.

Just had a good friend, a Colour Sergeant in The Parachute Regiment whose girlfriend lives up in the Midlands. On leave in their bubble, she's a school teacher, and promptly went down with COVID and gave it to him. I put a welfare check into him yesterday, week three of being back in barracks locked down on his own, changing the sheets daily cos they were soaked, and fed from afar by deliveries from his peers, his words to me were:
"You wouldn't wish this on your enemies".
He as an example is like a preverbial Butchers Dog, he is extremely fit, and could take on the World Boxing Champion, and it wiped him out, and his girlfriend was a lot worse. They are getting through now but it is a hell hole, if it hits a certain group of people. When you see some go through it after just a day or so, I say good luck to them, but then don't flout the scientific rules as we have to listen to experts NOT Politicians, who afterall only do their bidding!!
'Tonight my men and I have been through hell and back again, but the look on your faces when we let you out of the hall - we'd do it all again tomorrow.' Major Chris Keeble's words to Goose Green villagers on 29th May 1982 - 2 PARA

If the "experts" could only agree, and if they and the relevant authorities would use every reasonable method to reduce transmission.

For example it's been proven that raising humidity in a confined spaces causes airborne virus particles to bond to the tiny water droplets and drop out of the air. The efficacy of this is striking, but is it being done? Are centrally heated/cooled buildings resetting their air conditioning systems to increase humidity to over 45% when this process kicks in? Not that I've heard of.

Are UV light systems being retro-fitted where not already present to sterilize building airflows?

There's mumbling about "is it being spread through air conditioning systems?"; well, we've known for decades about "sick building syndrome" so should anyone be surprised!?

You'd think that if they were so interested in reducing transmission, public health authorities would be all over this.

When I last looked months ago, there were over 1500 recognized strains; how many are there now?

When Dr. Fauci publicly states he is taking Vit. C and D himself, why isn't it being recommended for everyone?

Anyway...the info is only keystrokes away, for those that want to look.

I know people who have suffered great loss because of this disease. I think there is a difference between "flouting" and questioning. I indeed wear a mask when in public and around others as a respectful person. I also have every reason to question. We were instructed that masks were stupid in the beginning, then the same officials say they are the cure for the pandemic. So, we were either lied to in the beginning, or we are being lied to about it now - I admit I don't know which (yet). I say lied because we certainly knew and understood the mode of transmission all along from the beginning.
My beef isn't really with the rules - it's with the lack of law and equal application thereof. Something as severe as confiscation of liberty needs to happen by passing a law, not by a years worth of edicts unequally directed, applied, and enforced. It needs the will of the people.

Curious. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...iew/index.html combines hospitalization and death into "PIC" pneumonia, influenza, covid. The "influenza like illness" is flatlined. Shouldn't it be going up with the annual flue season? Is it possible that we aren't confident enough in the underlying data to differentiate? PIC deaths and hospitalizations did spike, but have been going down over the last 3 weeks. What is the real situation for just COVID? Why are some states withholding certain data and releasing others?
...for all the Thanksgiving and Christmas police...correlation is not the same as causation.

According to the Frenchicon News; the fact that most people are following stricter hygene rules has had a beneficial effect on reducing other illness'.
Usually in France at this time of year, there is always a lot of "Gastro enterite" ; passed on by all the "bisous" and hand shakes. This year, there's hardly any at all. Which is good news because it nearly always get's me!
as for Covid; it seems to affect people in different ways; so definitely best avoided if possible.
you just don't know how resilient you are until you've got it; so probably better to do what's necessary to avoid it.
    Stay safe!
