For purpose of educating us ''newbies'', did one of the subcontractors of front sights stamp the "N" sideways?
Not knowing this, and with no mention of it in my ref book, I would have come to same conclusion as the buyer did.

Yes. Its is sometimes referred to as being marked Z rather than N. You have some more research to do my friend. The more we learn, the less we realize that we know.....

Your sight looks like the one on my original early S'G'. According to War Baby, page 423, Niedner Gun Co of Dowagiac, Michigan made them.

"It's Not Right" He's sending it back!

    Here is his last message:

"I have shown the sight to several people. and they agree it is not right . I will return it to you. As soon as I get the refund I will leave you a positive Feedback. Thanks"

    He's actually been friendly.

Now, do I sell it, or put it on my own S'G'

I just looked in Riesch's book, it shows the Z sight correct for QHMC.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I did hear some discussion on this before. That would be a "Z" sight. Same company that made "N" they just
turned sideways on purpose for contract. Correct for QHMC..

The QHMC "Z" info Riesch's book is just another error by omission as there's no doubt that the sight on my S'G' is as original as all it's other parts, which are all either IP, S'G' or unmarked. I wouldn't be surprised if some other owners of original IP, S'G', Standard Products, NPM , IBM and Inland can report the same "Z" as Niedner appears to have been a major supplier of sights for many of the M1icon carbine manufacturers.
What say you, BrianQ? What carbine wears the sight in the picture you posted above?
