I hope your "made-up example" doesn't get into the system as an authentic one. Unfortunately, cartridge collecting also has its share of fakers.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Ist on left is a 4.6x36 for a Heckler+Koch project. The spoon point got me thinking, and I remembered something from way back. So, w/ a bit of help from Wikipedia, I think that's it. Apparently it's actually a CETME designed round that H&K picked up. "Spoon" point for quicker destabilization upon impact.

I must say it's much harder to ID these w/o a "hands on" evaluation! "Educated" fingers?

2nd on left- I'll make a SWAG and say it's the current Chinese (5.8mm or some such) infantry round.

I'll have to give you a 1.5 on those answers, just a bit off on the CETME.
Here are the answers, from left:
    4x27 CETME, a Spanish experimental
    5.8x42 Chinese
8mm Ribeyrolle, a Frenchicon assault rifle experimental
    7.62x39
    8x63 Swedishicon MG
    8mm Murata
    .345 Machine Rifle, a pre-WWII US experimental.
    Thanks for playing!
