The wood looks about as dry as the Sahara desert at midday in the middle of summer could definitely do with a drink of RLO would not go near any naked flames with it even at a distance it may go up.

Is this one of those Khyber Pass rifles?

It does look like one from what I've seen of them as it appears it does not have the quality of machine finish of regular ones, Ray

Khyber Pass or "File gun" for short. Interesting collectors item. I've always been intrigued by the markings they put on them. The sky's the limit it seems!

Anzac15: Do you have any additional photos showing the left side receiver ring and barrel shank or the underside of the barrel? I wonder if, as opposed to being a "Kyhber Pass" it might be the victim of multiple conversions/ upgrades at Ishapore? The markings have some similarity to those of a CLLE Mk II I.P. They do seem to me to be rather strange markings for someone to put on a pure forgery. Just speculating because I always have trouble picturing somebody creating an action body with files and chunk of railroad track.

    My 5c worth:
To my eye, the markings make too much sense, and would be too obscure to the faker (fakir?) to be a Khyber Pass copy, IMHO.
I think this is just a bazaar Enfield which has been well-used, abused, and repaired somewhere East of Suez.

Ok, here's some more pics. I have the worst camera anywhere, so bear with me. The left side is '1910 CLLE'..and there IS a word or letters above the 1910. But it is extremely worn. IF I had to make a guess, I'd say it says 'COND', but I am not going to swear to it.
I believe this is a genuine 1902 receiver thats been 'assimilated' over the years. Stock seems to be pretty crude. Have a look guys.

Maybe the pattern rifle they used had those stamps. I don't know if it's a Khyber rifle or not as I've never handled one but it sure doesn't look quality machine made including the under side that would normally be protected from wear/abuse. Ray
