I’m not set up to rotate the barrel myself- difficult id imagine? I’ll get pics up shortly.

It's just a degree or so, very little. Yes, you need a barrel vise and wrench. Not something to be attempted with a pipewrench and a bench vise... You could always send it over to BDLicon Ltd, Brian Dickicon of these pages. He's fully set up and would sort it and prove it. Also Chuckindenver is here and could do it...

    This may not apply, but.........

I have a Mosin Nagant (Finn) that shot a full 3' to the left at 200 yards. An examination of the front sight revealed that it was already as far to the left as the dovetail would allow. Thinking I had a bent barrel, I removed the action from the stock and was astonished to find the forend so badly warped that I couldn't get the action back in again! I transferred the action to a Russianicon stock and shot it again...........after drifting that front sight back over, it shot to the point of aim.

Lessons learned: A warped stock is difficult to detect initially, and the force exerted by warped wood is tremendous.

It was a perceived canted front sight. Not a suspect bent barrel or POI far from POA, he hadn't shot it and there may be NO problem to begin with. Also, we may never know...although he's around.

I was thinking the milling might be off, as the front sight blade is staked in place fairly offset to compensate for the sight base being canted. The sight assembly does not appear to be bent in any way. I tried pulling the assembly off, but for the life of me can’t tap it off after removing the pin! Is the front sight key an integral part of the barrel? Or is it installed later?

The key sits in a keyway which is milled into the barrel. All this is done when the barrel is in a fixture and all features are added. The stake mark could be done at the end for a reference mark though... The front sight could require a puller which is like a commercial puller for splines and such.

Here are some pics- sorry for the quality- it was extremely difficult to get my phone to focus on the whole rifle to be able to see the cant of the front sight. Now if I could only remove that front sight...

Is the barrel bent? You see there's a double witness line on the receiver...like it was done again. The serial number looks different between rifle and barrel...maybe that one's right though.

The sight should come off with a puller.

Wait...you still haven't shot this? Why worry until you do?

The serial number between receiver and barrel match- 304481. I’m not seeing a double witness mark- only one on receiver and one on barrel- and they look to line up- where are you seeing the second one? No I haven’t shot it, I wanted to ask around on here to see if it was ok. The barrel definitely doesn’t look bent.
