    That's what I thought
    I don't have a carbine so I couldn't try it
I do know my Father in Law carried a Garandicon

Were carbine bayonets even around in 1942?

When was the bayonet lug put on the m1 carbine
He also fought on Bougainville where he got wounded leading an operation against a jap machine gun nest
Knowing this is a carbine bayonet he may have picked it up there
Like most vets he never talked about actual combat just some side stories when he was there
Thanks all for the info on this bayonet

That's always been a subject of controversy. There's a video showing a B29 ditching and at vid end there's a carbine with bayonet lug shown. The video is 1945. I'll bet most carbines didn't have them until about time to go to Korea. I don't want to speculate on where it came from but as a past serving member myself, those things can come from anywhere and they go into the pile with everything else. I just doubt it was procured until late war.
