I always used the uniformer with my M1A, no problems ever.I believe it does make safer ammo. I started loading for this AR,It doesn't really matter how hot I run the load I fire 55 rounds and I find 3 case's missing primers. The rest of the case's show the primer has slipped back and hit the face of the bolt.No primer flow, no expansion, no gas leakage.I heeded the advise of the board and bought supplies big time last summer. I have thousands of primers all Winchester. I have thousands of case's all win and R-P once fired. No combination of the above seems to help.
I would love to try other primers but none are to be found. I wonder if I change the brass if this would help maybe to LC military. Now I am wondering if I stop uniforming if it will keep the pockets a little tighter so I can get through the season with the components I have. I figure it probally cannot be helping any/ Right?

In the above post it should also read that no matter how far I back the load down the recults are the same.

All the uniforming tools I've seen only cut on the bottom, ie they don't increase the diameter of the primer pocket only its depth.
So I don't see how not uniforming would do anything to "keep the pockets a little tighter"
There's something else going on that's causing the primers to back out.

I'm still waiting to hear more on the primer having enough pressure to cause the bolt to unlock...

From his description, it's fairly straight forward Mr. Harvey. He's obstructing the bore with the towel to keep from scaring the dog. That will generate enough pressure to slightly pop the bolt in an AR....I've done it myself!

With a vented flash suppressor/muzzle brake?
(...though I stand corrected if it's a straight barrel/closed muzzle as in an HBAR)

So, Mr. Kepler
Seems straightforward enough.
But just to clarify.
Did you obstruct a bore with a towel, scare your dog or generate enough pressure to slightly pop the bolt in an AR.

I use LC brass and WSR primers and the primer pocket uniformer didn't change the feel of force needed to seat the primers.
Primers can pop out for several reasons. You should be able to feel if they seat loosely or if they are tight to seat. If they fit loosely then the pockets have expanded maybe because those loads were too hot and the brass too soft. I have heard some complain that the newer gold colored WSR primers are too loose and they use CCI primers instead. I have loaded LC brass 6 times and the WSR primers still seat tight. I use a Lee hand primer which easily tells me if the primer pocket is loose or not.
If they seat fine then your headspace could be too much.
Maybe you might tell us or repeat how you measured headspace and what powders and loads you are using.

I did almost the same thing as the OP....AND was using a Winchester primer! In my case I was testing a new firing pin, it was a folded shop rag, on the floor, the rifle muzzle-down on the rag, popped the trigger and surprisingly saw the bolt move! The "dog" in my case was the wife who likes loud noises in the house a whole lot less than the Lab!

LOTS of AR's don't have any of that junk on the end of the barrel...and since the OP was trying to muffle the report the same way I did, it's a fairly legitimate assumption that his doesn't either! FWIW, it DID reduce the noise to a minimum!
